Notre Dame Cornerback Reveals Why he Transferred to Florida State cover image

Karson Hobbs has joined the Seminoles, and delivered this glowing review of why Tallahassee became his new home.

The Florida State transfer portal class grew one more player late Friday, this time via South Bend, Ind.

Notre Dame defensive back Karson Hobbs went from visitor to committed -- shutting down his portal recruitment and transferring over to Florida State.

What led to his decision to choose the Seminoles? Hobbs told Zach Bolstein of 247Sports that multiple factors played a role.

"Overall, I think Florida State is a historic program. It really speaks for itself," Hobbs began to Bolstein. "A guy like me, coming from Notre Dame, I see great opportunities."

He revealed he received a strong conversation with his newest head coach Mike Norvell.

"I just feel like what coach Norvell and what the DB coaches here are doing," Hobbs said of why he committed to the 'Noles. "I just really think they'll put me in the position to be successful and achieve my final dreams of going to the NFL."

As it turns out, Hobbs' arrival comes in great timing. Florida State must replace top DB Earl Little Jr. -- who spurned the NFL Draft for the transfer portal.

He'll soon go from one defensive guru in Marcus Freeman to lining up for Tony White and his aggressive 3-3-5 look. Will Hobbs become the new "Little" in the secondary?

"I think it's a little bit different. They're always blitzing, always sending pressure so giving your nickels a lot more time to play more of a scooch technique against good receivers like the ones I went against last year," Hobbs said. "It'll be much more of a better opportunity with a challenge like that to be able to be able to sustain and maintain my leverage and just make good plays on the football," he said of his role in the defense."

Hobbs earned one start against Texas A&M this past season -- which was a home loss for the Fighting Irish. He still delivered four solo tackles that night.

He picked off North Carolina State once, which ironically was one of his list of portal options.

FSU and Norvell lands the nation's No. 17 overall cornerback per 247Sports. He also joins fellow CB transfer Nehemiah Chandler, who comes over via South Alabama.

Hobbs is the second portal addition for the 'Noles on this Friday -- joining left tackle and former Auburn Tiger Xavier Chaplin.

FSU is now nearing 10 portal transfers for this 2026 cycle.
