Florida State football won't stop pursuing explosive athletes amid Gus Malzahn retiring. That includes those offered by national champion Indiana.
In fact, Malzahn's offensive coordinator replacement Tim Harris Jr. is courting one highly touted 2027 prospect. But Harris isn't the only FSU coach making a run at Cam Wade.
The talent from Paducah Tilghman High in Paducah, Ky. wrapped up a two-day visit to Tallahassee. He's listed as a wide receiver by 247Sports but told Chris Nee where he envisions lining up at once he settles into the collegiate world.
"I want to play both sides in college, so that's going to be a big thing for me," he tells Nee.
Sounds like Florida State already has that vision for him -- including what they plan for him on offense.
"They're just taking a lot of things vertical, taking it downfield," Wade explained. "I feel like that's a part of my game where I excel, like catching the ball down the field and catching the ball and running with it after. So I feel like I could do that as well."
This hands the forthcoming OC Harris a new wideout weapon to work with if he wins over this recruit. Harris brings an area of expertise in WR play, having served as the positions coach for that spot last season along with passing game coordinator. Harris also helped mold USC transfer Duce Robinson into a 1,000-yard wideout for the first time in his career in 2025.
But cornerbacks coach Blue Adams is very much involved in Wade's recruitment too -- including rolling this plan to Wade.
"On the defensive side of the ball, it is a lot of man coverage," Wade added. "So I feel like I can lock somebody down on my side, lock down the whole field."
Adams clearly is picturing sharpening Wade's man coverage ability if he chooses FSU. All while returning defensive coordinator Tony White will allow him to play solo coverage on wideouts.
Wade enjoyed his visit so much that he plans "to come back in the spring as well for some spring ball practices." An official visit to the campus is also in consideration too.
Wade is the state of Kentucky's fifth-rated prospect. He currently holds 21 total offers with IU representing one of his biggest opportunities. It's not presently known if Wade plans to visit Bloomington during the spring.
Louisville and North Carolina represent the only Atlantic Coast Conference competition for Florida State regarding Wade's recruiting process.
