The Georgia Bulldogs will have revenge on their minds when one opponent comes to Sanford Stadium this season.
The Georgia Bulldogs are just a few short months away from finally getting back on the field in front of a packed Sanford Stadium full of screaming fans.
While folks will fill it up for week one regardless, much of the first part of the schedule – especially at home prior to the Oklahoma game at the end of September – is a little bit lean and without a ton of juice.
Should Georgia get through a test against the Sooners unscathed though, a game to watch once the calendar turns to October will likely have an intriguing narrative as Kirby Smart and company prepare to welcome Vanderbilt into town.
Following one of the more dramatic recruitments we have seen in some time, five-star quarterback Jared Curtis – who flipped from the Bulldogs to the Commodores for a reported huge NIL deal – figures to be the starting quarterback as a freshman, giving Smart a chance at revenge.
Georgia Will Be Hungry to Make Curtis Pay for Flip
While Smart will never admit it publicly, it almost certainly bothers him to have lost a recruit in any capacity, let alone a superstar quarterback amid a rumored NIL deal for the second time in three cycles.
And for it to be to Vanderbilt, a team the Bulldogs made a habit of using as a punching bag for so many years in the SEC East, there was unquestionably some insult added to injury there.
Needless to say, this is not the same Commodores program and they have earned some much-deserved respect over the last two seasons, but Georgia is very much still the top dog here, and October 3 will present a chance to prove that for the Bulldogs.
Away Game at Georgia is Monumental Task for Freshman QB
By all indications, Curtis is going to be the starting quarterback on day one for Vanderbilt this season, a reality that seems almost incomprehensible in the SEC. Playing quarterback is hard enough, but doing so in this conference without any experience is borderline impossible.
The game in Sanford Stadium would be just his second start in the SEC coming off what is another difficult test the week before on the road against the Auburn Tigers.
If Curtis really is as good as his recruitment status indicated, he should win this job. At the same time though, the Bulldogs should be able to make him feel the weight of the SEC right out of the gate as well.
