The Georgia Bulldogs are among the final suitors for a 2027 four-star safety, but they will have to beat out some SEC foes to get him.

The Georgia Bulldogs have cracked the final list for one of the best safeties in the nation for the class of 2027, and they are going up against some of their biggest rivals for his signature.

According to a report from Hayes Fawcett of Rivals and On3, four-star safety Davion Jones is officially down to five schools, and the Bulldogs are being considered along with the LSU Tigers, Auburn Tigers, South Carolina Gamecocks and Indiana Hoosiers.

Jones, who is set to enter his senior season at William Amos Hough High School in Cornelius, North Carolina, is one of the best players in the state and right up there with some of the best in the country at his position.

Jones Would Fill Need for Bulldogs in Class of 2027

Though there is of course plenty of time, Kirby Smart has gotten off to a little bit of a slow start for the class of 2027 in terms of defense. With seven total commits, the only defender is three-star linebacker Temorris Campbell Jr. out of Florida.

Jones would be the first safety added to the class and looks like someone who could be a contributor early in his career. Currently rated by 247 Composite rankings as the No. 153 player in the nation, he’s also a top-ten safety and No. 7 overall in the state of North Carolina.

Standing at 5 feet 11 inches and weighing 165 pounds right now, he obviously has some growing to do, but with plenty of time to fill out and already showing some elite tools, it makes a ton of sense why Georgia is going after him hard.

What Kind of Skillset Jones Would Bring to Georgia

According to his 247 scouting report, Jones is described as a player who not only brings some tremendous speed to the table, but also is a gifted tackler when it comes to technique. Helping lead his team to a state title as a sophomore as well as being a star on the track, this is the exact type of athlete Smart covets.

He is also able to play man coverage as well as zone, giving Smart the kind of chess piece ability for Jones to play as a traditional over the top safety as well as down underneath in the box.

With an official visit locked in for all five finalists, Jones will likely be making a decision in the not so distant future as Georgia tries to lock him up.
