The Georgia Bulldogs may be closing in on this tight end recruit.

The Georgia Bulldogs hosted the Oklahoma Sooners this past weekend in a game that turned ugly relatively quick and ended in yet another blowout victory for the Dawgs as folks keep on waiting for someone to challenge this team.

Given the list of names who was in the Sanford Stadium crowd though, perhaps a blowout performance was timely as the Dawgs try to bring in the next elite generation of players. Following a spring which was not all that fruitful for the class of 2027, Georgia is trying to change the luck in 2028 and with that is relentlessly pursuing some of the top names in the class.

One guy they have been on for some time already now and look poised to potentially land is three-star tight end Bennett Conyers out of the Nashville area. While speaking to Rivals after the weekend, Conyers offered nothing but praise for the way his visit went.

Conyers Loved His Visit at Georgia, Praises Program

"I had a great time in Athens," Conyers said. "I am impressed with the program itself and the standard Coach Smart sets. I had a great time today with Coach Hartley and Coach Smart. UGA is definitely one of my top schools. Every time I go back I feel valued and love the program."

The Dawgs are one of the best places in the nation to develop tight ends, and while Conyers may not be an extremely high profile recruit right now, stars mean a whole lot less at this position. Very few guys who play tight end in high school are doing the kind of things they will be asked to do at the next level, so internal evaluation of the tape and seeing what a guy is physically capable of rather than just numbers is critical.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 220 pounds, Conyers has the kind of frame the Bulldogs covet in a tight end, and the physical traits are clearly there. If Georgia is going after a tight end prospect, it's because they believe in what he can do once they get him on campus, not necessarily even what he has done at the high school level.

Conyers fits the bill in terms of someone the Bulldogs want to land and develop over a couple of years to be a productive Georgia tight end in the future, and so having a great visit is certainly a big success.

Over the next six months or so, keep an eye on Conyers as a potential name to commit to the Bulldogs in the near future and come in to try to develop over the next couple of years before finally getting his shot to make an impact on the field.
