The Georgia Bulldogs have not been pushed.
The Georgia Bulldogs are now 4-0 after another victory this past weekend against the Oklahoma Sooners in a game that turned into a whole lot more of a blowout than most expected it to be.
Before the season, this Sooners team was expected to potentially be a dark horse to contend for an SEC title, and this was one of the marquee games of the season at home at Sanford Stadium. Instead, Oklahoma's offensive struggles that have persisted throughout the first few weeks reached a peak in Athens and several horrible turnovers turned it into an absolute blowout.
Through four games, the Dawgs are now outscoring their opponents by 166 points and once again, have not really been tested to this point. Of course, Georgia must continue to control what it can control, but with some very tough games coming up, an ideal world would see the Bulldogs have to fight for a victory rather than steamrolling their opponent.
Georgia Has Not Yet Been Seen in True Dogfight
In all likelihood, this team is not simply going to cruise to a national title. They need to learn how to play in close games in order to be at their best when perfect execution is needed. It's unlikely that is going to come this coming week against Vanderbilt at home who is quarterbacked by a true freshman who was once committed to Georgia in Jared Curtis.
Later in the year though, when the Bulldogs have to face teams like Alabama, Florida and Ole Miss, they are not simply going to run away with the game. Fans who are unsure about exactly how great this Georgia team us simply have not been given a real answer to this point.
At the end of the day, it's wonderful to see Kirby Smart having his team playing as well as they are, however true tests are coming, and time will tell whether or not the Bulldogs are ready and whether this schedule prepared them to be up for the challenge of those tests.
Georgia looks like the best team in the SEC, but we cannot know yet whether or not that says more about them or the teams they have gone up against. Regardless, the Dawgs will continue to take care of business and roll along until someone decides they are going to give them a real fight, because to this point, it has not happened.
