The Georgia Bulldogs have clearly prioritized the recruitment of one of the top linebackers in the state.

The Georgia Bulldogs are ramping up their pursuit of prospects in the class of 2027 as the Kirby Smart Scavenger Hunt weekend presented the first real opportunity to start building some momentum.

Smart had numerous five-star guys from around the country on campus this weekend, and while the big names nationally understandably draw all of the attention, it's an in-state linebacker who the Bulldogs seem to be prioritizing more than anyone else.

Joakim Gouda, a Powder Springs prospect who is rated by 247 Composite rankings as the No. 192 prospect nationally in the class of 2027, was described by Chad Simmons of Rivals and On3 as one of the most important visitors to campus this weekend even though it is not an official.

Joakim Gouda Being Pursued Strongly by Georgia

Notably, Simmons made it a point to reveal that Bulldogs defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann went to the spring game this past Thursday night for Gouda's McEachern High School, clearly showing some serious interest in the linebacker.

Just as notable as the Georgia pursuit though is the fact that Gouda is also being highly coveted by both the Florida Gators and the Texas Longhorns, showing that coaches may have him a whole lot higher rated than most recruiting ranking sites.

Before arriving on campus, the Bulldogs were already seen as the favorite for Gouda, and a strong visit weekend in Athens likely only increased the chances that the Bulldogs would be able to land him.

Alabama and Auburn also made the final list for Gouda back in February, but this now is starting to look like a race between Kirby Smart, Jon Sumrall, and Steve Sarkisian.

What Kind of Skillset Gouda Would Bring to Georgia

Though Gouda has not gotten the attention nationally that other linebackers have in what is a very talented class at the position, he has a chance to be every bit as good as anyone in this 2027 class.

Standing at 6-foot-2 and already weighing 225 pounds, Gouda looks more SEC ready than most linebackers you will encounter entering their senior year of high school. Some fans have compared his build to that of Bulldog legend CJ Allen, which of course is high praise, but with the schools that are going after him, this is a special player.

If Smart was able to cultivate a further relationship between him, the coaching staff and Gouda, seeing him wind up in Athens here eventually would be a surprise to absolutely no one.
