The Georgia Bulldogs have landed a major target for the class of 2027 who they have been going after hard for the last several months over the Clemson Tigers.

In-state four-star Lakeside High School safety Seth Williams announced his decision to commit to Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs over Dabo Swinney's Tigers, a decision which did not look like it was going to be coming by the way things were going in early July.

Williams was initially set to make his decision on July 4 and while Georgia was in the final two at the time, Clemson was seen as the heavy favorite. When he elected to push his date back though, it became clear that Smart was pressing hard and the Bulldogs have a chance. Now, the Atlanta area native announces he is officially staying home and coming to Athens.

"I just felt like it was the right choice for me and my future," Williams told Rivals after emphasizing how much love he has for both programs and that he could not have gone wrong either way. "The guys they produce, all the first-round safeties and first-round draft picks, knowing T-Rob and Coach Thacker are going to get me where I need to go, and Coach Kirby Smart being a defensive coach…it all stood out."

Williams also pointed to the fact that the Bulldog defense plays three safeties and that he can fit at nickel, free safety or strong safety, giving him a better chance to force his way into the lineup because of his versatility. 

This was a battle that went on for a very long time with Williams initially committing to Clemson then backing off that pledge and eventually pushing back his new date, but ultimately Smart and this coaching staff were able to convince him that staying home was going to be the best thing for him to do.

As for how early he could see the field, Georgia does have some nice depth at the safety position with experience, but given that Williams still has a high school season to play and KJ Bolden could be gone after this year to the NFL, there will always be a need for more talent in the room.

If Williams can come in next spring and do his job, perhaps he could see some real time on the field as a freshman in the 2027 season. In the meantime, fans will be watching his Lakeside season closely now that he has committed to the Bulldogs and is staying at home.

As for the class, Georgia now finds itself back within the top-10 in the country and will try to keep it that way before signing day. It has not been the most fruitful recruiting spring, but this is a huge win over a Clemson team that's made a habit of coming into the Deep South and taking great players back to South Carolina.
