The Georgia Bulldogs have been jostling with the Clemson Tigers for multiple names
The Georgia Bulldogs have been scanning the class of 2027 to try to land some final pieces and secure a top-10 unit across the nation over some of their most hated rivals.
Needless to say, the presence of the transfer portal makes it less urgent to secure a premiere group of high school talent every year, but it is jarring for fans to see where the Bulldogs ranked before some commitments this spring. The hope is that Kirby Smart and this staff are not done yet, but over the weekend they lost out on a major target to a recruiting rival in the Clemson Tigers.
With Prattville, Alabama native Jayden Aparicio-Bailey committing to Dabo Swinney and the Tigers over the weekend, it's another defensive back target off the board for Georgia. It stings to lose out to Swinney, but this Friday, another decision was supposed to be made between the Bulldogs and Tigers for another defensive back.
Seth Williams Pushes Commitment Date from This Friday
The four-star Atlanta area safety was set to make his announcement this Friday, July 3 with Clemson seemingly the favorite over Georgia, but Williams made some headlines over the weekend with the news that he is delaying things with a new date to be determined.
After the Bulldogs were more of a late surge in the process and Williams has spoken about how much his family loves Georgia with his father being a huge fan for decades, a delay here could just mean positive news for Smart and the staff in Athens.
The Tigers and Bulldogs have already been announced as the final two he is deciding between, so barring another school getting involved in the process, Georgia still only has one team to beat in order to land a pledge from Williams.
What Kind of Skillset Williams Would Bring to Athens
The Lakeside standout is rated as a top-25 safety in the nation and similarly when it comes to overall players in the state of Georgia. He has playing experience on both sides of the ball and has been seen as an electric playmaker for some time now.
As is always the case with young defensive backs, he will have a lot of work to do in the film room and the weight room whenever he steps on either campus, but Williams projects as a future impact player in whatever secondary he joins.
Fans will be eager to hear a new date announcement, but for however long Georgia now has, they should continue to put the full court press on Williams if they want to avoid another recruiting defeat to Swinney and Clemson.
