The Georgia Bulldogs are just a few weeks away from the start of the regular season, getting the pads on this week for fall camp and preparing to make the final tune ups for a critical campaign in Athens.

Fans have questions about certain position groups on the roster, but one area which is not up for debate is quarterback. Gunner Stockton may not be the most talented and physically gifted signal caller in the nation, but he is absolutely one of the best. Now going into his second year as a starter, he is looking to take the next step in order to elevate the program to new heights.

Stockton has the support of the fanbase, but more importantly he has the support of the locker room. According to some intel from Rusty Mansell of UGA Sports, the veteran quarterback's takeover as a leader has occurred headed into fall camp. Despite the narrative being that Stockton is a quiet guy who does not talk a ton during SEC Media Days, it sounds like he is growing.

"Stockton is in his second go-around as Georgia’s starting quarterback, and he knows what to expect now," Mansell wrote. "I am told he is in complete control of this team. He is the guy right now. Gunner is the alpha. He is front and center in meetings, workouts and throwing sessions."

Being a quieter guy who has a reputation for leading by example rather than by words, taking control of the locker room as the vocal leader of the team was always going to be the next step for Stockton. At a program like this, actions will always be more important than words, but establishing himself firmly as the biggest voice in the locker room was going to be huge.

This is a guy who was at his best when the moments were biggest last season, which the Bulldogs will need Stockton to be once again. What helps make that happen though is a belief from the team that this is the guy to take them into battle, and Stockton has left no doubt about that this offseason.

It still has to translate to on the field, but it sounds like Stockton has done exactly what he's needed to do this offseason to continue progressing as a player and as a leader. This should be something that excites fans tremendously headed into fall camp.
