The Georgia Bulldogs are having a massive recruiting weekend, and one name on campus is someone they are going after hard.
The Georgia Bulldogs are hosting one of their biggest recruiting weekends of the year with the annual Kirby Smart Scavenger Hunt, and some huge names are on campus and hearing the pitch from the coaching staff.
With things in the class of 2027 off to a little bit of a slow start and plenty of time still to come, this weekend is the perfect opportunity to build some momentum and start to establish a class that will undoubtedly be among the top in the nation.
Needless to say, there is going to be a lot of talent in Athens this weekend, but one name might be sticking out above the rest as the Bulldogs try to pick up momentum and land the crown jewel.
Five-star edge rusher KJ Green, who is rated by 247 as a top-ten player in the nation, has been lukewarm for Georgia, but new intel from Tom Loy of 247 reveals that Smart's program is very much in the equation.
Georgia Still Has Long Way to Go on Green
With some of the biggest countries in the nation going after Green and visits lined up to Oregon, Texas, South Carolina and Alabama lined up after this weekend. The Stephenson High School prospect out of Stone Mountain remains the top uncommitted prospect in the state as well as the top uncommitted edge rusher in the nation.
Given that the Bulldogs have largely been seen as an outsider in Green's recruitment, the actual chances of landing him do not feel all that great, but getting him on campus for a weekend like this can change everything.
Smart has landed elite prospects during scavenger hunt weekend before, and he will again, but Green would be one of the more notable edges Smart has ever landed.
What Kind of Skillset Green Would Bring to Georgia
Green has the ideal build and athleticism to play edge, being praised by scouts not only for his burst, but also sheer power and perhaps most importantly, motor and effort.
The in-state product certainly looks like an SEC edge rusher, a position which is becoming more and more important by the year. In the thick of his official visit season and looking to commit this summer, teams are making their final cases to Green.
He is set to announce his pledge on August 8, and until he puts on another team's hat, Bulldog fans will be paying very close attention here.
