The Georgia Bulldogs have a special player in this young true freshman.
The Georgia Bulldogs are 3-0 after a tremendous start to the season has seen them handle their first three opponents of the season by a combined 138 points following the SEC opener against Arkansas.
Hitting the road and taking care of business against a Razorbacks program that is down and out right now, the Dawgs earned a 45-17 victory in a game that went exactly the way most folks expected it to. For the third straight game, Gunner Stockton was out of action early once things got a little bit out of hand, but it was his final throw which could change the way Georgia does things on offense moving forward.
Stockton found true freshman Craig Dandridge for a 61-yard score which was the play of the day for the Bulldogs offense and showed off the speed and electricity that Dandridge can bring to this unit.
Dandridge finished the afternoon with three receptions for 74 yards and the touchdown, and this was on the heels of recording two catches for 56 yards last week against Western Kentucky and two more for 36 against Tennessee State as well.
During a spring in which the entire room was questioned routinely and folks wondered who was going to step up to catch passes from Stockton, Dandridge was largely an afterthought from most. It's so rare for true freshmen to contribute in a meaningful way from a skill position role, and Georgia has other guys who were due to step in.
With that being said, Dandridge clearly brings a speed and explosiveness element that nobody else in this offense brings, and if he can keep on doing the right things and proving he deserves snaps, it will be tough to keep him off the field.
It's a bit early to declare a best receiver on the team and Dandridge certainly has not shown quite enough to earn that title, but what he brings to this offense simply cannot be denied.
Dandridge is going to keep getting shots to prove why he needs to be a key piece of this passing attack, and if he keeps performing like he did on Saturday afternoon, his role is only going to keep on growing week after week.
Next week against the Oklahoma Sooners is really the first true test of the season for the Dawgs, so whatever role Dandridge plays could give a glimpse into what he may be asked to do for the rest of the season.
