The Georgia Bulldogs are very much in the race here.
The Georgia Bulldogs opened the season with two games at home against Tennessee State and Western Kentucky which they won by a combined 110 points without a whole lot of value in the matchups.
From a coaching staff standpoint though, one reason they like to start the season with games like this is the recruiting opportunities they provide, and the historic white out at Sanford Stadium. With the Dawgs debuted white helmets for the first time, tons of recruits made a trip to Athens to get their eyes on them in person.
While there were a number of players from both the classes of 2027 and 2028 in attendance, one name stood out from the rest in the No. 1 player in the entire country for this year's class. Currently committed to Ohio State and seeming solid there to this point, DJ Jacobs' visit to Athens raised a ton of eyebrows.

"Every little visit, every bit of communication, all that face time with the staff definitely does not hurt Georgia and Georgia hasn't stopped recruiting DJ Jacobs and Jacobs still picks up the phone when Georgia calls and Georgia texts," Simmons said. "Every visit counts...It was a big deal that he was in Athens yesterday."
Simmons did clarify that the Bulldogs are not on the cusp or even particularly close right now to pulling off this move which would send shockwaves around the country. Jacobs has a younger brother he was with in Athens who is also being recruited, which is relevant to his appearance there.
With that being said, Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs have clearly not given up because they still feel there is a chance they could land this guy.
What Kind of Skillset Jacobs Would Bring to Georgia
Jacobs is as ready made as an edge rusher to contribute early in his career as you can possibly ask for. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 240 pounds, this is a guy who has been an absolute superstar at Blessed Trinity Catholic in Roswell for years now and is as technically sound as they come.
Making a tremendous impact both in the pass and the run game, there's a reason Jacobs is being sought after by every school in the country. It remains to be seen whether Georgia has a real shot here, but clearly they believe they do.
