After a war of words between SEC coaches this week, Georgia Bulldogs fans should be even more grateful to have Kirby Smart as their head coach.

It’s been a fairly hectic last week in the SEC when it comes to coaches stepping up to the microphone or conducting interviews for different publications.

Just a day after Lane Kiffin essentially insinuated that he was limited in recruiting at his previous stop in Oxford due to issues surrounding race in the state of Mississippi, Ole Miss was on the receiving end of another shot from an entirely different head coach.

Texas Longhorns head man Steve Sarkisian used the Rebels as his example when talking about places where academic standards for transfers are low, setting off a firestorm in the conference while the Kiffin shot from Baton Rouge was still ringing.

While these dramatics are fun for uninvolved opposing fanbases like Georgia, it should also serve as a reminder to Bulldog fans just how grateful they should be to have Kirby Smart around.

Georgia Fans Don’t Deal with Any Nonsense from Kirby Smart

It may feel like a little bit of a low bar to not have your coach begging to be the center of attention constantly and even throwing previous stops and colleagues under the bus in order to make that happen.

But while this does not seem like much to ask, it also brings into perspective the kind of old school, no-nonsense approach that Smart brings to the table, something which is more valuable than ever in today’s day and age.

Smart does not make excuses when he doesn’t land a player or finds a way to lose a game, in fact it’s quite the opposite: he looks inward.

This week, both Kiffin and Sarkisian did the opposite of that.

Smart’s Philosophy Has Kept Bulldogs On Top

For as turbulent as things have been in college football for the last half decade and all the radical change we have seen in such a short amount of time, Smart’s Georgia teams have stayed consistently on top of the SEC and maintained their level of play.

Having a coach who preaches accountability in everything he and his team does is no small reason for that, and while he may not like what the sport has become, he has certainly adapted.

While there is of course work left to do in order to get back to the top of the mountain and win another national title, this week has been a strong reminder for Bulldog nation: there is not anyone more equipped for the job than Kirby Smart.
