Illinois football has a chance to get better on offense this week in Champaign.
Illinois football is 2-2 on the season and staring down a game against Purdue that looks like a potential must-win. Coach Bret Bielema's team has dropped games to Duke and Ohio State despite a strong season from transfer quarterback Katin Houser, who has led Illinois' passing game to 255 yards per game.
On Tuesday, Bielema shared good news on the offensive front as he revealed that a star transfer is expected to return to practice this week after missing the first four games of the season.

Former Florida Atlantic wide receiver Jayshon Platt was expected to spark Illinois' offense this season but has been out with an undisclosed injury. Bielema has mentioned him often in his weekly press conferences as a player capable of bringing balance to the Fighting Illini offense.
Bielema's hope has given way to disappointment for a Platt return throughout the season, but Wednesday took on a different tone.
Platt "should get involved with us Tuesday or Wednesday," Bielema said Tuesday according to reporter Carson Gourdie. Platt was a projected starter before the season after catching 46 passes for 720 yards and five touchdowns with the Owls in 2025-26.
He played as a freshman, sophomore, and junior before breaking out his senior season in Boca Raton, Fla. The return of Platt could change the entire complexion of Illinois' offense against Purdue, giving Bielema's team a chance to get back to its high-scoring ways.
Double Teams, Depth Issues Cause Havoc vs. OSU
Platt traveled to Columbus with the team but did not play in a 42-19 road loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was listed as doubtful before the game and was not able to overcome the odds to help his team against arguably their toughest opponent of the season.
The game marked the end of a hot streak for wide receiver Collin Dixon, who led the nation with seven touchdown receptions heading into the game but failed to record one against a stout Matt Patricia-led defense.
Dixon was double-teamed or spied during the game by an extra defender. Illinois receiver Hudson Clement helped pick up the slack with a season-best game of five catches for 87 yards, while Dixon had five catches for 63 yards.
Ty Robinson, a hero of the Illini's opener against the UAB Blazers, also chipped in with four catches for 45 yards and a touchdown, showing signs of new life against one of the Big Ten's best defenses.
Ohio State showed how far Bielema's team must go to become a Big Ten championship caliber team, now the Illini have a standard to chase.
Platt's return could give Bielema and offensive coordinator Joe Lunney, Jr. an even better passing attack as the Illini trend toward Oct. 15's home showdown against Dan Lanning's Oregon Ducks.
