The Illinois men's basketball team may have another star in the fold based on the offseason play of transfer forward Stefan Vaaks.
The Illinois Fighting Illini men's basketball team reeled in the nation's 24th ranked recruiting class this offseason led by one five-star freshman, two four-star freshmen and one four-star transfer, guard/forward Stefan Vaaks.
Vaaks will likely be counted on to provide scoring punch and three-point shooting this season for an Illinois team that is expected to be one of the best offensively in the entire country.
Earlier this week, footage surfaced of Vaaks getting plenty of game action under his belt with his northern European team, showing off impressive shooting range and a silky smooth touch from outside.

Vaaks Goes Off in FIBA Action
Vaaks shined in two consecutive games with Estonia as his overseas team played in FIBA World Cup qualifying action.
The 2027 FIBA World Cup is scheduled for August 2027 in Qatar and Vaaks wasn't holding anything back in pursuit of victory.
"New Illinois wing Stefan Vaaks with a pair of impressive games for Estonia in WC Qualifiers," NBA Draft expert Jonathan Wasserman wrote.
"Combined 39 points on 15-31 with 12 assists."
Vaaks led Estonia to a first place finish in the European qualifiers' Group H and showed maturity beyond his years.
Wasserman is high on Vaaks' potential based on last season's performance with the Providence Friars, noting his strong three-point shooting.
"Skilled shooter at 6-7 coming off 91 3PTM at Providence, useful PnR (pick-and-roll) passer and ball mover within the offense," Wasserman added.
Vaaks is expected to join a long list of European groomed players to shine in Champaign with the Fighting Illini.
His FIBA tape shows a player who should team well with current Illinois star Andrej Stojakovic forming one of the best outside shooting lineups in the nation.
Where Vaaks Fits on 2026-27 UI Depth Chart
Vaaks is expected to face stiff competition for a starting spot on coach Brad Underwood's team this coming fall but has the talent to make it a reality.
The former Friar averaged 15.8 points per game in a strong Big East Conference last season but must work on his efficiency.
Vaaks launched over eight three-pointers per game last season, hitting at a 35% clip.
He should benefit handsomely from better teammates this coming season which could lead to a higher shooting percentage.
The 206-pound forward will face tougher competition in a Big Ten Conference widely regarded as the nation's best last season.
Judging by Vaaks' high profile summer performances, a starting spot this season looks like a strong possibility — One that will test his mettle beyond anything he has known to this point in his young career.
