Illinois is 4-3 (2-2 Big Ten) through seven weeks this season. How will the Fighting Illini finish the year? Will they reach a bowl game?
Thanks to two huge wins over Michigan State and Oregon, the Illinois Fighting Illini have revived their season.
According to ESPN's Football Power Index metric, the Illini have a 62.4% chance of winning six games and clinching a trip to a bowl game for the fourth time in the last five years.
Will Illinois be able to do so? The Fighting Illini are currently 4-3 (2-2 Big Ten) with five weeks remaining in the regular season, and would need at least one upset over a favored conference team in order to reach the postseason.
Here's how we have the final five weeks shaking out for Illinois:
Saturday, Oct. 31 @ Maryland (2-5, 0-4 B1G)
Illinois' soonest game is its most likely win among the remaining schedule. The Terps have lost five consecutive games by an average of more than 24 points and recently fired head coach Mike Locksley. ESPN's FPI metric gives the Fighting Illini a 69.5% chance of winning the game, making it the only contest out of the final five in which Illinois is favored.
Winner Prediction: Illinois
Friday, Nov. 6 vs. Nebraska (5-2, 2-2 B1G)
The Cornhuskers are still a good team, despite their two-game skid. Nebraska came three points away from upsetting Indiana and fell to Oregon by a field goal as well. Quarterback Anthony Colandrea leads the second-highest scoring offense in the Big Ten at 35.6 points per game, while the defense has held opponents to just 15.4 points per game (sixth in the conference).
Winner Prediction: Nebraska
Friday, Nov. 13 @ No. 7 UCLA (7-0, 5-0 B1G)
UCLA is the Big Ten's best surprise this season. After going 3-9 a year ago, the program hired head coach Bob Chesney from James Madison, and he has completely turned UCLA's fortunes around. The Bruins boast a top-five scoring offense and defense in the Big Ten, the former of which is headlined by running back Wayne Knight (627 rushing yards, 12 touchdowns).
Winner Prediction: UCLA

The Hawkeyes looked promising after starting 4-0 with a win over Michigan, then lost by 17 points to Ohio State. Iowa turned heads when it blew out Washington on the road a week later, and on Saturday, Kirk Ferentz's team lost to Minnesota, 13-10. Quarterback remains an issue and starting running back Kamari Moulton (90.2 rushing yards per game) was officially ruled out for the remainder of the season on Tuesday. But despite all of the disarray, Iowa is still a team that finds a way to succeed, even if the wins are ugly.
Winner Prediction: Iowa
Saturday, Nov. 28 @ No. 20 Northwestern (6-1, 3-1 B1G)
Katin Houser could potentially return for this matchup against in-state rival Northwestern, especially if Illinois enters the game 5-6 and needs to win to reach a bowl game. But these are not the Wildcats of old. Behind offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, Northwestern is averaging 34.7 points per game, good for third in the Big Ten and 35th in the FBS. Quarterback Aidan Chiles is in the midst of a much-improved season from his time at Michigan State and has the 'Cats vying for a College Football Playoff berth.
Winner Prediction: Northwestern
