BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — For years, Nebraska found itself at or near the bottom of the Big Ten basketball standings. Things have been getting better the past few years, but no one saw this coming. As we get to mid-January, the Cornhuskers are still undefeated.
Nebraska is 15-0 so far and on a school-record 19-game winning dating back to last year. They arrive at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall for a Noon ET game with Indiana on Saturday, and they're a perfect 4-0 in the league, tied at the top with No. 2 Michigan and No. 5 Purdue.
They're also ranked No. 10 in this week's Associated Press poll, the first time they've been ranked that high since 1966. They are led by 6-foot-10 senior center Rienk Mast, who's averaging 16.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Pryce Sandford, who played the last two years at Iowa, is averaging 15.9
This is another important road test for Nebraska, which already has road win at Ohio State and Illinois in the Big.

Series history: Indiana leads the series, 19-11, but Nebraska is on a four-game winning streak since 2023 during the Mike Woodson era at Indiana. The Cornhuskers won 85-68 in Lincoln, Neb. last year and all four wins have come by at least 15 points. Prior to the four-game losing streak, Indiana had won seven straight games from 2019-22. Indiana is 8-4 against Nebraska at Assembly Hall
1. NEBRASKA THE SURPRISE UNBEATEN: Nebraska has been competitive lately under Fred Hoiberg, but this year's start has caught every off guard. No one expected 15 straight wins out of the gate, four of which are in the conference. They didn't play the toughest nonconference schedule — it ranked No. 300 according to Kenpom.com — but did have wins over Power 5 conference foes Oklahoma, Kansas State and Creighton. They find a way every night out "They've done such a good job of going out there self-correcting sometimes and understanding when they're making mistakes and the things that maybe they need to do to get out of a rut," Hoiberg said.
2. ROAD WARRIORS SO FAR: Nebraska through the years has struggled on the road in the Big Ten but that hasn't been the case this year. They've already won at No. 13 Illinois and Ohio State to help the Huskers start 4-0 in league play for the first time in 50 years. "I think the biggest thing is composure," Hoiberg told reporters earlier this week. "Our guys have really done a good job of staying with it, and one thing we've been really fortunate with is we've gotten off to good starts on the road. And then you have a cushion when a team does go on a run, which invariably will happen. Especially when you're playing in an opponent's gym."
3. HOOSIERS ARE FAVORED?: Yes, as a matter of fact, they are, which is a bit of a surprise. But there is data to explain it, most the fact that Indiana is 10-0 at home, and they shoot much better there from distance. Indiana is 31-for-110 from three on the road — just 28.2 percent — but are 127-for-325 at home, a whopping 39.1 shoot percentage. Everyone just seems more comfortable at home. Lamar Wilkerson set an Assembly Hall scoring record with 44 points against Penn State and Tatyon Conerway had 18 first-half points last week against Washington. The Hoosiers are playing with a lot of confidence right now, too, after grabbing a double-digit win on the road at Maryland on Wednesday.
