1. MICK CRONIN GETTING IT DONE: UCLA is coached by Midwesterner Mick Cronin, a Cincinnati native who was an assistant at Louisville and Cincinnati before becoming the head coach at Murray State from 2003 to 2006. He was the head coach at Cincinnati from 2006 to 2019 before getting hired at UCLA. He's 514-240 all-time, a .682 winning percentage, and has taken 15 teams to the NCAA Tournament. He reached the Final Four with UCLA in 2021, making a dramatic run from the play-in game to the national semifinals, where they lost unbeaten Gonzaga 93-90 in overtime.
2. BALANCED ATTACK FOR BRUINS: UCLA has five different players who average in double-digits, and anyone can beat you on any given night. Tyler Bilodeau, a 6-foot-9 senior forward from Kennewick, Wash., leads the way with 18.2 points per game. He's led the Bruins in scoring seven times, including both games last week — wins over Northwestern and Oregon. Six different players have led UCLA in scoring in different games.
3. WEST COAST SWING ENDS TUESDAY: When the Big Ten expanded last year, the UCLA-USC road trip became a thing for teams to make traveling a little easier. Indiana got them both at home last season — IU did the Oregon-Washington road trip instead — and have the LA road trip this year. They will play USC on Tuesday night. It's not an easy trip. UCLA is 4-0 in Big Ten home games thus far. USC, who has flirted with the top-25 too, is 15-6 and 4-6 in the Big Ten. They are, somewhat surprisingly, just 1-3 in Big Ten home games.
