BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- No. 2 Indiana continues to win games convincingly, but the Hoosiers have seen injuries pile up. Indiana is coming off a 55-10 win at Maryland; however, it left that game with more questions than answers on the injury front. Two days after the win, Indiana coach Curt Cignetti provided injury updates on three Indiana starters.
Wide receiver Elijah Sarratt left the Maryland game in the first quarter after having his hamstring tighten up on him. Cignetti said Indiana will "know more day-to-day" with Sarratt this week.
Sarratt entered the Maryland game as Indiana's leading receiver, although Omar Cooper Jr. passed Sarratt after he exited without a catch. Sarratt, who was named All-Big Ten last season, has 45 catches for 609 yards this season. He leads the Big Ten with 10 touchdown catches. Without Sarratt, Indiana used Charlie Becker and Jonathan Brady as its third receiver alongside Cooper and E.J. Williams Jr.
Cignetti said he's "optimistic" about linebacker Aiden Fisher's return this week. Fisher, who Cignetti called "probable" last Monday, missed the Maryland game after suffering a knee injury against UCLA on Oct. 25.
Fisher was in uniform and was a captain for the Hoosiers against Maryland, but he didn't play a snap. The All-American linebacker has 49 total tackles, seven tackles for losses, 2.5 sacks and an interception for the Hoosiers this year. He was replaced on Saturday by Kaiden Turner, who left the game with an injury after intercepting a pass.
Left guard Drew Evans will not be available for Indiana against Penn State. Cignetti said Evans, whose injury is unknown, will be out "for a few weeks" after the Maryland win.
Evans started the first eight games of the year for Indiana, but he was surprisingly listed as out on the availability report before the Maryland game. Evans started nine games for the Hoosiers in 2024 before suffering a season-ending Achilles injury last November. He will now miss Indiana's first two games this November. Ohio State transfer Zen Michalski started in Evans' place against Maryland.
The Hoosiers are looking to stay healthy as they chase a run for the Big Ten and national championships. Right now, this team isn't playing at full strength, but it's doing its best to stay fresh for a season that could stretch into January.
"Injuries are a part of the game," Cignetti said Monday. "Some of them are outside your control. I'm always thinking about the health of our football team."
