A relentless shutout victory and eighteen consecutive wins propel Bloomington’s elite squad into the top five, fueled by a dominant defense and an explosive, high-scoring aerial assault.

Indiana football continues its relentless climb up the national rankings after another overwhelming performance. The Associated Press released its latest Top 25 college football poll, and the Hoosiers found themselves elevated to the No. 4 spot overall. Following an emphatic 55 to 0 shutout victory against Howard at Memorial Stadium, voters rewarded the program with three first place votes and a total of 1,466 voting points. Moving up from the No. 5 spot last week, Indiana has now built an incredible streak of 32 consecutive appearances in the national rankings, extending a remarkable era for the program in Bloomington.

The spectacular rise comes on the back of complete dominance on both sides of the ball. The victory over Howard pushed Indiana to a 2-0 start on the current campaign, while expanding their active winning streak to 18 games overall and 17 straight victories on home turf. From the opening kickoff, the offense dictated the flow of the game with total precision. Quarterback Josh Hoover needed only two quarters of work to inflict massive damage, completing six of eleven pass attempts for 146 yards and four touchdown strikes without turning the ball over a single time.

Wide receiver Charlie Becker was on the receiving end of much of that dynamic passing attack. Becker put on a clinic by hauling in three catches for 81 yards, with every single one of those receptions resulting in a trip to the end zone. That gives Becker five touchdown catches through just two contests this fall. The aerial assault was well distributed across the deep receiving corps as well, with Nick Marsh, Shazz Preston, and Davion Chandler each catching a touchdown pass to keep the opposing defense completely off balance.

While the passing game provided early fireworks, the ground attack ground down the competition with sheer physical force. Indiana pounded out 296 rushing yards and a touchdown as a team. Lee Beebe Jr. spearheaded the backfield with 117 rushing yards on 16 carries. Turbo Richard was equally devastating on the ground, adding 11 carries for 108 yards and a rushing touchdown of his own. In total, the offense compiled 506 yards of total offense while operating with surgical efficiency.

Not to be outdone, the Indiana defense delivered an absolute masterclass in containment and chaos creation. The unit limited Howard to a meager 57 yards of total offense for the entire afternoon. The Hoosiers defense racked up five sacks, 12 tackles for loss, and forced a key turnover that went straight for points. Midway through the second quarter, defensive back Rolijah Hardy intercepted a pass and returned it 19 yards for a touchdown, putting the defensive stamp on a flawless collective performance. Keishaun Calhoun anchored the pass rush with two sacks, while nine different Hoosiers contributed to tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

Sitting firmly inside the top four nationally, Indiana has made it abundantly clear that their sustained success is no fluke. With a balanced offense, a suffocating defense, and momentum rolling on all cylinders, the Hoosiers look every bit like a championship contender as they shift their focus toward the next week of the schedule.
