No. 2 Indiana (9-0, 6-0 Big Ten) looks to remain undefeated this week as it goes on the road to face Penn State (3-5, 0-5 Big Ten). The Nittany Lions are on a five-game losing streak after being ranked second in the country to start the year.
For the second time this year, Indiana will be facing a team with an interim head coach. Terry Smith has coached the last two games for Penn State after it fired James Franklin. The Nittany Lions are coming off a 38-14 loss to No. 1 Ohio State, and now they face the second-ranked Hoosiers.
Here’s what Smith had to say ahead of the matchup with Indiana.
“Curt Cignetti is a friend of mine. He reached out to me when all of this went down, so I'm appreciative to him. He's a Pittsburgh guy, and we go way back from his dad being a coach at (Indiana University Pennsylvania), and (I) know the whole family. So, it's a great relationship.”
“These two receivers that they have at Indiana have more touchdowns than the Ohio State guys. So, it doesn't get any easier. (They’re) very similar in their style and approach with RPO, play action, take a shot.”
"He's an outstanding coach. His entire family they're just all men that have been coaching. He has a methodical approach to things, and he's a player developer. He runs a great program. … Everywhere, he's had success, and guys buy into the program. And once you get buy-in and trust, you can do some special things, and that's what he's doing right now.
“He's got those guys playing as good as anyone in the country. So, I respect everything that he's doing, and he's doing it the right way.”
