Indiana is expected to manhandle Howard, but there are still a few Bison players that Hoosier fans should be aware of.
Indiana is expected to absolutely roll Howard on Saturday afternoon. The Hoosiers are currently 55.5-point favorites over the Bison. With that being said, Howard still has a few nice players to keep an eye out for.
1. QB Ja'Shawn Scroggins
At 6-3, 205 pounds, Scroggins has really good size for the position and is a true dual-threat guy. Against Alabama A&M, Scroggins threw for 315 yards and three touchdowns and also led the Bison in rushing with 49 yards on 15 carries. Despite being pretty big, Scroggins boasts legit 4.7 speed and solid agility. He's a problem in the open field and can certainly break off big runs if allowed.
He also throws quite well on the run and still has enough arm strength to put zip on the ball when rolling out or escaping pressure.
2. RB Travis Kerney
Next to Scroggins, Kerney provides a nice compliment in the Bison running game. The 5-11, 203-pounder received some Power 4 interesting from schools like Kentucky and South Florida before picking Howard.
Kerney is billed as a workhorse back who gets better as the game goes on. He has homerun speed once out in the open but he's also a physical, tough runner between the tackles.
3. LB Rodney Roane
At 6-2, 235 pounds, Roane has good size and a knack for disrupting the running game. He's got a lot of experience after playing several seasons at Hutchinson Community College and Towson. He's been described as a heavy-hitting, disruptive presence in the middle of Howard's defense. He does most of his damage at or behind the line of scrimmage, whether he's blitzing or staying in his lanes.
4. S Kaleb Gallop
Gallop is a long, versatile defensive back with elite size at 6-3, 215 pounds. He has established himself as an impact player in Howard's secondary. Because of his length, he's good at disrupting passes downfield and contesting high-point jump balls. His skills in these areas is rare at the FCS level and gives him a chance to matchup with bigger, strong players at the Power 4 level.
He's also solid in the run game as evidenced by his 47 tackles and 3.5 tackles per loss last year. His size-speed combination is rare at a place like Howard so he is utilized in many different ways.
5. RB Eden James
For whatever reason, James has not been utilized much this season at all after several promising season at Howard. The son of Hall of Fame running back Edgerrin James, Eden is a lot like his dad in that he has great vision, good one-cut ability and plenty of long speed. Also like his dad, he's a great receiver out of the backfield.
It'll be interesting to see if he's used more against the Hoosiers, because he can be a weapon for the Bison.
