Indiana guard Lamar Wilkerson exploded for a record-setting 44 points and 10 three-pointers last Tuesday against Penn State, etching his name in Indiana basketball history with an unforgettable performance. For his exploits, he was named Co-Player of the Week by the Big Ten.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana redshirt senior guard Lamar Wilkerson was named Co-Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday.. He shared the honor with Nebraska junior forward Pryce Sandfort.

Wilkerson had a record-setting week. He scored 44 points in 24 minutes in a win against Penn State on Tuesday, breaking the Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall scoring record of 43 set by Trayce Jackson-Davis. He made 10 three-pointers against the Nittany Lions, a school record.

He had 15 points in a loss at Kentucky on Saturday despite being in foul trouble most of the night.

For the week, he shot 63.6 percent — 21-of-33 — from the floor, 60.0 percent (12-of-20) from the three-point line, and 83.3 percent (5-of-6) from the free throw line.

According to OptaStats, Wilkerson — a transfer from Sam Houston State as part of Darian DeVries' first roster at Indiana — is the only Division I or NBA player in the last 30 seasons to score 40-plus points and make 10-plus three-pointers in a game while playing less than 25 minutes.

His scoring outburst marked the most by a Hoosier against a Big Ten opponent since Mike Woodson scored 48 points at Illinois on March 3, 1979, and the most in a Big Ten home game since Jimmy Rayl posted 44 points against Wisconsin on Feb. 12, 1962 at the IU Fieldhouse.

He is the first Big Ten player since Luka Garza — who had 44 points on Dec. 6, 2019 — to score at least 44 points in a single game. The school-record 10 made three-pointers are the most by a Big Ten player since Jordan Bohannon had 10 three against Maryland on Feb. 10, 2022.

Wilkerson is the second Hoosier to be honored by the league this season. Redshirt senior forward Tucker DeVries claimed Co-Player of the Week honors on Nov. 10 following the first week of action.

Indiana (8-3) will be back in action at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday against Chicago State at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. They play Siena on Monday, and then are off for 13 days before starting Big Ten play at home against Washington on Jan. 4.
