Entering Week 3 as 44.5-point favorites, the No. 4 Indiana Hoosiers return to Memorial Stadium to hose the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. While transfer quarterback Josh Hoover and the passing offense have stolen the headlines, Indiana's backfield duo — Boston College transfer Turbo Richard and redshirt senior Lee Beebe Jr. — serves as the true X-Factor tandem in setting the tone for Curt Cignetti.

When standing in the backfield, Richard and Beebe look quite similar. Richard is listed at 5-8, 207 pounds, while Beebe is only slightly bigger at 5-10, 215 pounds. They both have their signature dreads hanging out of the back of their helmets and both are solidly built, ready for Big Ten play. 

As his name suggests, Turbo is the speedier back, but he's stout and tough and can handle an inside workload. Beebe is a little bigger and is viewed as the short yardage guy who can really move a pile. Somehow, though, Richard has found the end zone three times, while Beebe is still looking for his first score in 2026. 

The two of them provide a very nice thunder and lightning dynamic out of the backfield and they've received a pretty even workload through two games. Beebe has carried the ball 30 times, while Richard is just behind him with 26. In the passing game, Richard is more of a threat as a receiver and in the screen game, while Beebe is very reliable as a pass blocker against blitz-heavy schemes. While different, the two backs are virtually interchangeable. 

Through two games, Indiana's passing attack has generated several explosive big plays, but establishing a dominant, soul-crushing ground attack is critical as Big Ten play approaches next week against Northwestern.

Against a Western Kentucky defense that ranks dead last in the FBS after allowing 59.5 points per game against Nevada and Georgia, Indiana is expected to light up the scoreboard once again. The Hilltoppers are second to last in rush defense, which means the points could come by way of the ground. Richard and Beebe hold the keys to a complete and dominant offensive performance. 

WKU thrives on a fast-pace "Air Raid" system, so controlling the clock is also going to be important for the Hoosiers this week. Sustained, physical drives led by Richard and Beebe will keep the Hilltopper passing offense on the sidelines. Those effective, sustained rushes will also open up the play-action game where Charlie Becker and Nick Marsh can do a lot of damage.

If the tandem can replicate their multi-100-yard standard, Indiana will turn a potential trap game into an effortless tune-up before conference play.
