Indiana senior Lamar Wilkerson can pass the 600-point threshold on Sunday, and when he does, he'll be just the third player to do it at Indiana who didn't also play high school ball in the state. It's happened 20 times so far, and most everyone is a native Hoosier, through and through.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Lamar Wilkerson is about to make some Indiana basketball history on Sunday. He's scored 589 points so far in his first season with the Hoosiers after transferring from Sam Houston State.

When he hits 600 points, it'll be just the 21st time ever that an Indiana player has done that. And Wilkerson will be just the third player to do it who did NOT play high school basketball in Indiana.

Only Ohio native Scott May and Kirk Haston, a Tennessee native, have ever done it. May scored 752 points during Indiana's undefeated 1975-76 national championship season.

Haston scored 626 points in 2001. Every other prolific scorer in school history over 600 points was a Hoosier, born and bred.

Wilkerson is averaging 21.0 points per game this season, second-best in the Big Ten behind Nick Martinelli of Northwestern. So it's likely he'll score 11 or more on Sunday when the Hoosiers host No. 13 Michigan State and Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Tip time is 3:45 p.m. ET, with the game nationally televised on CBS.

Wilkerson, who's from Ashdown, Ark., has scored 40-plus points twice in games at Assembly Hall this season. He's the only player in school history to do that. He's also chasing Steve Alford's record of 107 three-pointers in a season. He's got 92 so far, with three regular season games to go.
