Top Cyclones To Watch Against Oklahoma State

Iowa State will look to bounce back against No. 24 Oklahoma State in a Halloween primetime clash. Here are three key players you should keep an eye on.

Iowa State faces another major test on Saturday when it hosts No. 24 Oklahoma State at Jack Trice Stadium. After a 39-3 loss to Arizona, the Cyclones will look to regroup and rely on their top playmaker to deliver a stronger performance against one of the Big 12's most potent offenses.

Iowa State enters the game with a 3-4 overall record and 1-3 in Big 12 play, while Oklahoma State comes in at 5-2 overall and 3-1 in league action. A victory on Saturday keeps the Cowboys squarely in the hunt for a Big 12 championship. Oklahoma State is averaging more than 500 total yards per game, and Iowa State will need contributions on both sides of the ball.

Here are the three Cyclones to watch in Saturday's matchup.

Jaylen Raynor, Quarterback

Raynor will be one of the most important players to watch against Oklahoma State. The quarterback has thrown for 1,107 yards and seven touchdowns this season. Iowa State will need him to make smart decisions, protect the football, and find opportunities to move the offense downfield.

Against a Cowboys team that can score quickly, sustained drives are going to be important. Raynor's ability to connect with his receivers and avoid turnovers could help Iowa State keep the game close and competitive.

Aiden Flora, Running Back

Flora could be a big part of Iowa State’s game plan against Oklahoma State. He has rushed for 716 yards this season and has shown that he can make plays when the offense needs them. If he can find running room and pick up solid gains, it could help Iowa State keep the ball moving and give its defense some time to rest.

Flora has already shown what he can do in many games this year, with his five-touchdown outing against West Virginia being a prime example. Iowa State will need him to bring that same energy against Oklahoma State. A strong performance on the ground could take some pressure off quarterback Jaylen Raynor and give the Cyclones more options in the passing game.

Sullivan Schlimgen, Linebacker

Schlimgen will be someone to watch on the defensive side of the ball. He leads the Big 12 with an average of 10.1 tackles per game and finished with 15 tackles against Arizona. Those numbers show how important he has been to Iowa State’s defense.

Against Oklahoma State, Schlimgen will need to be around the ball and help limit the Cowboys’ opportunities. His tackling and ability to make plays could be important, especially if Oklahoma State gets its offense going early. Iowa State will need its defense to stay focused and avoid giving up easy yards to have a chance in this one.
