As October rolls in, Week 4 of the NFL season brought major upsets, statement wins, and a mixed bag of performances from former Iowa State stars across the league.

So, in case you missed it, here is how some of your favorite former Cyclones performed in Week 4:

David Montgomery (RB, Houston Texans)

David Montgomery and the Houston Texans faced the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. The Cowboys have struggled on defense all season, giving up 389.5 total yards per game and 150.3 on the ground (27th in the NFL)  allowing 4.8 yards per carry to opposing backs.

Although facing a bad run defense, Montgomery and the Texans' offensive line continued to struggle on the ground, as Montgomery had only 10 carries for 24 yards (2.4 YPC). But he did make a big play in the passing game, as after a quick short pass out wide, the ball was pitched back to Montgomery in stride, letting him turn upfield along the sideline for a 19-yard gain into Cowboys territory, which led to a score for the Texans to take the lead in the fourth.

The Texans ultimately lost the game 34-30, falling to 0-4 on the season. Houston will have a stiff mountain to climb in order to stay in playoff contention.

Jaylin Noel (WR, Houston Texans)

The Dallas defense has also struggled in the passing game as well, yielding 239.2 passing yards per game (24th in the NFL). Unlike the run game, Jaylin Noel and the Texans' passing game were able to take full advantage, with Noel having three catches for 85 yards (28.3 yards per catch). He got started early with a 52-yard chunk play to put the Texans in Cowboys territory.

Will McDonald IV (OLB, New York Jets)

Will McDonald and the New York Jets faced the Chicago Bears. McDonald recorded a season high of five tackles on Sunday. He showed off his ability to get free from blocks in order to tackle in the run game. Although the Bears got the ball out quickly in the passing game, lowering the chances of getting a sack, McDonald was able to continually put pressure on Bears backup quarterback Tyson Bagent, which caused the quarterback to make hurried rollouts and quick check down passes.

The Jets would lose to the Bears 23–12, falling to 1-3 on the season.

Brock Purdy (QB, San Francisco 49ers)

Brock Purdy and the 49ers kept their winning streak alive by beating the Denver Broncos 24-14 in Denver. Purdy had an efficient game, completing 19 of 30 passes for 218 yards, two touchdowns, and a 107.4 passer rating. He also ran the ball 10 times for 29 yards, his highest number of carries this season. This is the fourth game in a row that Purdy has thrown at least two touchdown passes and finished with a passer rating over 100 to start the season.

The 49ers are now 4-0 on the season.
