From walk-on to Big 12 playmaker, this versatile sophomore is terrorizing defenses as a triple-threat runner, receiver, and passer while powering the Cyclones' high-octane offensive attack.

Iowa State running back Aiden Florida has had a breakout sophomore season. The former walk-on took on a starting role this season and has not looked back, showing off his explosiveness and versatility as the backfield's lead back. Proving to be one of the best playmakers in the Big 12.

Elite Versatility

Flora has shown this season that he can do just about everything on the field, making a big difference for his team in a multitude of ways. He has not just been great on the ground this season; he has also become one of the Cyclones’ top receivers, with an impressive PFF grade of 85.4 as a receiver. He has stood out all season in the passing game, making key catches and proving he has reliable hands and the ability to make plays in open space when they do put the ball in his hands.

Flora has shown to also great in pass protection as well, earning a solid PFF blocking grade of 79.2, which shows he can be counted on to protect the quarterback. Now speaking of quarterback, yes flora has played that too. The new wrinkle in Tyler Roehl’s playbook has allowed Flora to get involved in the passing game as a quarterback. He has shown he can throw well and is great at reading a pocket in those situations. He has also contributed on special teams as a returner, showing his open-field ability and helping set up the offense in good field position multiple times.

Elite Production

The versatility shown by Aiden Flora has led to elite production this season, putting up big numbers in the first six games of the season. He has carried the ball 90 times for 680 yards, averaging 7.6 yards per carry and scoring six touchdowns. Flora has also caught 10 passes for 66 yards and has been perfect passing the ball, going two for two on pass attempts for 48 passing yards and two touches. Flora has also made a huge impact on special teams with seven returns for 125 yards and a touchdown that came from a 65-yard return against Bowling Green. Even though the offense has been one-dimensional, Flora has been able to stand out, be productive, and show off his ability to do it all. If the team can improve its passing game, Flora could become a true star in the second half of the season.
