The 7-foot-3 center should give Ben McCollum's team some much-needed size in 2026-27.
After watching former Purdue center Zach Edey consistently crush their frontcourts, Iowa men's basketball fans will have their own version of Edey to cheer for next season.
Kind of.
Saint Mary's transfer Andrew McKeever will transfer to the Hawkeyes, Joe Tipton of On3 Sports reported on Saturday. McKeever will have two years of eligibility remaining and becomes the second transfer to join Iowa, following Illinois State's Ty'Reek Coleman on Friday.
Comparing McKeever to Edey is unfair to both players, but they do have something in common - they are both the same height. That's right. McKeever stands at 7-foot-3 inches tall with a listed weight of 285 pounds (Edey weighs 300 pounds).
McKeever, an incoming junior, primarily came off the bench for the Gaels last season, recording 8.2 points and a staggering 9.2 rebounds per game. Saint Mary's went 27-6 and reached the NCAA tournament for a fifth consecutive season, where they fell to 10th-seeded Texas A&M in the first round.
Though McKeever didn't start, he still earned regular minutes for the Gaels, collecting 30 minutes of action in both the West Coast Conference and NCAA tournament contests. Head coach Randy Bennett left for Arizona State following the Big Dance, and 247Sports reported that McKeever received interest from Purdue, Cincinnati, UConn, Michigan, and others.
247Sports ranked McKeever as a four-star transfer prospect, and it's easy to see why. His 9.2 rebounds per game were a WCC best, and that's definitely a number that attracted Iowa coach Ben McCollum, whose 2026 Hawkeyes struggled on the glass.
