For the first time in a decade, your Iowa Hawkeye men's and women's basketball teams will play on a new floor at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. 

On May 15, the University of Iowa announced that it had purchased the floor used during Iowa men's basketball's Elite Eight showdown against Illinois at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. 

Just four days later, the official Iowa Hawkeyes Twitter account posted a photo of the hardwood being transported into Carver-Hawkeye Arena. 

This is a move that was expected. Per the release, a floor typically lasts only 10 years, so it was due for a replacement. We also know how much men's basketball head coach Ben McCollum wants to overhaul the program's image, and the timing of the Elite Eight run made perfect sense to take the next step to do so. 

But what will it look like? Iowa hasn't teased any photos on social media, but did say in the release that the new floor will have a similar design to the old floor - a Tigerhawk at center court and black baselines and sidelines with gold font - but with a "visual update" that includes new design elements. 

We're currently in the middle of the approximate painting/drying process (May 26-June 6), so with no prior knowledge of what this floor could look like, I'm giving you what I would like to see. 

Both programs consistently gained national prestige in the 1990s, with the women's team making the Final Four in 1993. Though the men's team didn't have a ton of NCAA tournament success, it regularly appeared on national broadcasts on CBS and ESPN and always 

I was born in 2004, which was long after this 1990s heyday, but I don't really care. The court Iowa used in the '90s was incredible. The parquet floor the Hawkeyes have used since moving to Carver-Hawkeye in 1983 will be replaced with a new maple floor, but Iowa needs to bring back the gold baselines and sidelines. 

There was nothing wrong with the current look, but gold gives the floor a vibrant aspect both in-person and on TV. I'm not sure if Iowa will do that because of the aforementioned description in the release, but if there's something that is more likely to be added, it has to come from the logo department. 

I don't envision the Hawkeyes changing the Tigerhawk logo at center court for branding purposes, but if they consider it, I would go with either the old logo or even the classic I-O-W-A basketball logo that was often worn by fans and players in the '90s. 

If those can't be on the floor, they need to be incorporated in some way, whether it be near the paint or on the baselines. 

Again, I have no idea what Iowa will end up doing, but one thing is clear - this floor needs to be a modernized version of the floor that Iowa basketball fans grew up loving.
