Welcome back to our countdown to the 2026 Iowa football season!
Since May 28, we've been counting down the final 100 days until the Hawkeyes swarm out of the Kinnick Stadium tunnel for their season opener against Northern Illinois on Sept. 5.
Each day of the countdown has primarily featured an article profiling one of the current members of the 2026 Hawkeyes based on their jersey number, but as you can already tell by clicking on this article, we're going to have to mix things up a little bit.
Iowa doesn't issue a number that fits every day in our countdown, so instead of looking at a current player today, we're going to take a look at a former Hawkeye who wore No. 27 - linebacker Edmond Miles.

Career
Miles played during what some could argue were the glory days of Kirk Ferentz-coached Iowa football - the mid-2000s.
After redshirting during Iowa's memorable 2002 season, Miles slowly worked his way up the depth chart. Though he was primarily a special teams player in 2003, he earned freshman All-Big Ten honors.
That was probably a good indication of what was to come. Miles continued his ascendence in 2004 with another good season on special teams and even earned two starts at linebacker as well.
The Hawkeyes went 10-2 and shared the Big Ten championship with Michigan that season, but they would slowly decline during the remainder of Miles' career. Despite featuring star quarterback Drew Tate in both seasons, Iowa slumped to 7-5 in 2005 and then went 6-7 in 2006.
Though his team didn't fare well in the win column, 2005 and 2006 were the best seasons of Miles' career. He was a starter in both seasons, compiling a total of 94 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception, and two forced fumbles.
Despite putting together a stellar college career, Miles had a brief professional career. He went undrafted in the 2007 NFL Draft, but did register 18 games over a two-year span for the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants, respectively.
Sixteen of Miles' NFL appearances came in South Beach, but the Dolphins notoriously went 1-15 during the 2007 campaign.
After being released by the Atlanta Falcons ahead of the 2009 season, Miles retired from football and returned to Eastern Iowa. He currently lives in Cedar Rapids and is the head coach of the Cedar Rapids Jefferson J-Hawks.
