Welcome back to our countdown to the 2026 Iowa football season!
Since May 28, we've been counting down the final 100 days until the Hawkeyes swarm out of the Kinnick Stadium tunnel for their season opener against Northern Illinois on Sept. 5.
Each day of the countdown has primarily featured an article profiling one of the current members of the 2026 Hawkeyes based on their jersey number. That hasn't always been possible in recent days due to Iowa not issuing a number for every day in our countdown, but we're rolling right along at the moment.
Today marks 28 days until kickoff, which means it's time to take a look at the man who wears No. 28 - running back Kamari Moulton.
All of you probably know Moulton well, but to get you even more excited for the upcoming season, read about his career here.

Other notable players to wear No. 28: Another notable name to wear No. 28 for the Black and Gold happens to be a former running back - Damian Sims. Albert Young and Shonn Greene dominated Iowa's running back room in the mid to late-2000s, but Sims was a solid backup. His best season was 2006, where he compiled 664 rushing yards and six scores.
Moulton's career so far
2026 has the potential to feature Iowa's best running back room in years. The Hawkeyes have always been a good - but not great - rushing team under Kirk Ferentz, but the pieces are there for Iowa to terrorize opponents on the ground this year.
South Dakota transfer L.J. Phillips is getting plenty of hype, but the man at the forefront of this room (at least heading into the season) is Moulton.
Though he hasn't had the breakout season that would knock your socks off just yet, Moulton's consistency is the only consistent factor in this room right now. The Hawkeyes are on their third running backs coach in as many years (Ladell Betts, Omar Young), but new coach Jay Norvell has to appreciate the talent he has in front of him.
But again, Moulton's consistency is what separates him from the other backs this year. He totaled 878 yards and five touchdowns as the primary back last season, and he's also shown that he can be a capable target in the receiving game, too - tallying 97 yards on 16 receptions in 2025.
There's some turnover on the offensive line, but considering Trevor Lauck and Kade Pieper are back and the ridiculous momentum this unit has going for it right now, Moulton shouldn't have much trouble finding holes to run through.
The Fort Lauderdale native will likely end up splitting carries with Phillips as the season progresses, but as we get closer to the season opener with other position groups still to be filled (namely quarterback), you can almost pencil in Moulton as the Week 1 starter.
Expect a strong season from Moulton if he can stay healthy.
