The Elon transfer was brought in to help an inexperienced defensive line.

Welcome back to our countdown to the 2026 Iowa football season!

Since May 28, we've been counting down the final 100 days until the Hawkeyes swarm out of the Kinnick Stadium tunnel for their season opener against Northern Illinois on Sept. 5.

Each day of the countdown has primarily featured an article profiling one of the current members of the 2026 Hawkeyes based on their jersey number. Reading this countdown is highly recommended because it really helps you get to know every player on the roster and get you excited for the upcoming season.

Featured stories

Speaking of exciting, the next player on our list could be just that in 2026. There's 43 days until kickoff, which means it's time to take a look at No. 43 - defensive lineman Kahmari Brown.

Brown's resume could make him a fun player to watch this year, so be sure to get to know him here.

Bio

Hometown: Jacksonville, North Carolina

High School: White Oak High School

Year: Junior

Height: 6-foot-2

Weight: 245 pounds

Other notable players to wear No. 43: A recognizable name to wear No. 43 for the Hawkeyes is former linebacker Pat Angerer. Angerer battled injuries during his first few years of school, but once he was healthy, he was one of the best defensive players in the country. Angerer earned first-team All-American honors from three outlets for his performance during the 2009 season and currently ranks 25th in Iowa history with 258 tackles.

Brown's career so far

Iowa added several FCS players to its 2026 transfer portal class, and Brown is one of them.

He had little interest from Division I programs out of high school, but all it took was two years at Elon to prove that he can be an elite player at the highest level.

Brown became one of the most decorated defensive players in Phoenix history during his tenure there, becoming the first player in Elon history to record double-digit sacks in a season (12). He also left Elon tied on the school's all-time sack list, and was probably one of the only reasons why the Phoenix even managed to hover near .500 while he was there.

Making the jump from the Colonial Athletic Association will be tough for Brown at first, but he will have every opportunity to get reps in the non-conference.

The Hawkeye coaching staff isn't hinting what players will be starting for the season opener, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Brown on that list. Iowa badly needs experience on this defensive line, and that's exactly what it has with Brown.
