With so much transition on the defensive line, Hubert could have a chance to earn a role in 2026.

Welcome back to our countdown to the 2026 Iowa football season!

Since May 28, we've been counting down the final 100 days until the Hawkeyes swarm out of the Kinnick Stadium tunnel for their season opener against Northern Illinois on Sept. 5.

Each day of the countdown has primarily featured an article profiling one of the current members of the 2026 Hawkeyes based on their jersey number. On days where Iowa doesn't issue a jersey number, we'll go the historical route and take a look back in time at something that applies to the 2026 season.

Featured stories

Today marks 57 days until kickoff, so that means it's time to take a look at No. 57 - defensive lineman Will Hubert.

Get to know him here.

Bio

Hometown: Omaha, Nebraska

High School: Papillion-La Vista High School

Year: Senior

Height: 6-foot-3

Weight: 287 pounds

Other notable players to Wear No. 57: One recognizable name to don No. 57 in recent years is former defensive lineman Chauncey Golston. Golston was a two-year starter in 2019 and 2020, but he may be best known for his play during the 2018 season. Golston led the Hawkeyes with three fumble recoveries that year, including game-changing fumble recoveries in wins over Iowa State and Mississippi State in the 2019 Outback Bowl.

Hubert's career so far

Hubert has played sparse minutes so far, but with Ethan Hurkett, Max Llewellyn, Aaron Graves, and Brian Allen all graduating or entering the transfer portal, the door for Hubert to make an impact on this defensive line in 2026 is massive.

He's got the prep school pedigree to do it, too. There's not a ton of football talent in Nebraska, but Hubert quickly became one of the best players in the state, recording a state-best tackles for loss and sacks (12.5 as a senior).

Hubert, a three-star recruit per 247Sports composite rankings, had major college offers from Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, and Kansas State, but ultimately chose the Hawkeyes in October 2021.

Again, there's a very good chance Hubert sees the field in some capacity this year, but until Iowa releases its Week 1 depth chart, any guesses at this point are simply speculation.

One positive factor to Hubert seeing a role? He was named to the 2026 Player's Council, which involves a number of select players that are nominated by their teammates and coaches. These players are responsible for team decision-making throughout the year.
