Leonard enters his redshirt junior campaign for the Hawkeyes this year.

Welcome back to our countdown to the 2026 Iowa football season!

Since May 28, we've been counting down the final `100 days until the Hawkeyes storm out of the Kinnick Stadium tunnel to "Back in Black" for their season-opener against Northern Illinois on Sept. 5.

Each day primarily features, but isn't limited to, an article profiling the player that wears the jersey number of the respective day in the countdown, and that's exactly what we have today.

Featured stories

Today marks 75 days until the Hawkeyes tee up the ball, so that means it's time to take a look at the man who wears No. 75 - offensive lineman Cannon Leonard.

Get to know him here:

Bio

Hometown: Gilman, Illinois

High School: Iroquois West High School

Year: Redshirt Junior

Height: 6-foot-9

Weight: 309 pounds

Other notable players to wear No. 75: A recognizable name to don No. 75 in recent years is former offensive lineman Ike Boettger. The Cedar Falls native was a stalwart on Iowa's offensive line during the final three seasons of his career, but injuries would ultimately define his career. Boettger, who played both tackle and guard during his career, missed the latter half of the magical 2015 season due to an injury, played most of 2016, but his senior season of 2017 was over early after he suffered a season-ending injury against Iowa State.

Leonard's career so far

247Sports ranked Leonard as a three-star recruit and the No. 27 player in Illinois for the Class of 2023. His first college offer came from Ball State in the winter of 2022, but it would take awhile for major programs to offer the small town Illinois prospect.

Army. Western Illinois, Northern Iowa, Yale, Southern Illinois and others offered Leonard, but once the first Power Four offer came from Iowa, it only took one day to for Leonard to announce that he would become a Hawkeye.

After not seeing any game action during his first two seasons, which included a redshirt year in 2023, Leonard finally saw playing time in 2025. He played in all 13 games to help Iowa finish 9-4 overall and No. 17 in the final Associated Press poll.

The Hawkeyes lost a lot of talent on their offensive line from a year ago, so it will be interesting to see what lineup offensive line coach George Barnett comes up with by the time fall camp rolls around.

Leonard being in the starting conversation is a distinct possibility because he was Gennings Dunker's backup at right tackle, but only time will tell to see what Iowa will run out with on Sept. 5.
