The offensive lineman is one of the few athletes that can say he played for both Iowa and Iowa State.

Welcome back to our countdown to the 2026 Iowa football season!

Since May 28, we've been counting down the final 100 days until the Hawkeyes storm out of the Kinnick Stadium tunnel to "Back in Black" for their season-opener against Northern Illinois on Sept. 5.

Each day primarily features an article profiling one of the current members of the Hawkeye football team based on their jersey number that falls on the respective day of the countdown, and that's exactly what we have today.

Featured stories

Today marks 77 days until kickoff, so that means it's time to take a look at No. 77 - offensive lineman George Nahas.

Get to know him here:

Bio

Hometown: West Des Moines, Iowa

High School: Dowling Catholic High School

Year: Redshirt Junior

Height: 6-foot-3

Weight: 289 pounds

Other notable players to wear No. 77: A notable player to don No. 77 in recent years is former offensive lineman Connor Colby. Like Mason Richman, who wore No. 78 and make an appearance on Friday's article, Colby was one of the key pieces that helped Iowa's offensive line return to one of the nation's best. The Hawkeyes recorded their best per game rushing average since 2002 and saw their offensive line be named a semifinalist for the Joe Moore Award.

Nahas' career so far

Nahas arrived in Iowa City as a preferred walk on ahead of the 2025 season, but not before embarking on a rare transition. The West Des Moines product began his career as a walk-on offensive lineman for Iowa State for two seasons before making the jump to Iowa.

Little is known about Nahas since he hasn't seen much playing time during his college career, but he does still have two seasons of eligibility left, so it's possible he could see action on special teams at some point down the road.

One more interesting note about Nahas is that his father, Jim, played three seasons of baseball for Iowa before a brief professional stint with the Atlanta Braves Minor League affiliate Pulaski Braves. According to Baseball Reference, Jim Nahas pitched in four games during the 1991 campaign, yielding a 12.46 ERA.
