The wide receiver enters his redshirt freshman campaign.
Welcome back to our countdown to the 2026 Iowa football season!
Since May 28, we've been counting down the 100 days until the Hawkeyes storm out of the Kinnick Stadium tunnel to take on Northern Illinois on Sept. 5.
If you've been diagnosed with football fever already, this is a great place to be. Each day will primarily feature an article profiling one of the current members of the Hawkeye team based on their respective jersey numbers, but we've also shared some historical moments that Iowa fans have enjoyed over the years.
Today marks 83 days until Iowa's season-opener, so that means it's time to take a look at No. 83 - wide receiver Dylan Stecker.
Get to know him here:
Bio
Hometown: Spirit Lake, Iowa
High School: Spirit Lake High School
Year: Redshirt freshman
Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 210 pounds
Other notable players to wear No. 82: We had to dig into the archives a little bit to find the answer to this one, but a name Hawkeye fans will know that wore No. 82 was former tight end Allen Reisner. The Marion, Iowa native started in three games during Iowa's Orange Bowl-winning season in 2009 before becoming the No. 1 tight end in 2010, collecting 460 yards and two touchdowns on 42 catches.
Stecker's Iowa career so far
Stecker joined the Hawkeyes as a preferred walk-on ahead of the 2025 season, where he took a redshirt year. He hails from Spirit Lake, Iowa - a small community located along the western shore of East Okoboji Lake.
Stecker helped continue the winning tradition at Spirit Lake under former head coach Josh Bolluyt, leading the Indians to 31 victories over a three-year span while lettering at defensive back and wide receiver. Spirit Lake was the Class 2A runner-up during Stecker's senior season, where he recorded 1,223 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns.
Stecker also played basketball and competed in track and field during his high school career. Like the previous wide receiver on our countdown, Jackson Naeve, Stecker also has a sibling playing for Iowa State. His twin brother, Ethan, will be a redshirt freshman linebacker for the Cyclones in 2026.
