After spending her freshman season at Georgia, Faison followed teammate Dani Carnegie to Iowa City.
While many college basketball teams attempt to bring the most experienced players from the transfer portal to position themselves for a national championship run, others do the opposite.
Iowa women's basketball is no stranger to recruiting elite, experienced talent from the transfer portal (Dani Carnegie and Amari Whiting), but like other teams in the athletic department (namely football), the Hawkeyes have also brought in several underclassmen with talented upside that can be developed for the future.
When head coach Jan Jensen and her coaching staff look at Georgia transfer Jocelyn Faison, that's exactly what they see.
“We’re so excited to have Jocelyn. She has an extremely high ceiling and brings great length and versatility,” Jensen said in a press release after Faison signed on May 3. “I’m looking forward to working with her in our system and welcoming her to the Hawkeye family.”
The Rundown
Faison's decision to start her college career at Georgia probably wasn't a surprise. She was a star high school player just down the road at Langston Hughes High School in Atlanta, a career that resulted in her being named the No. 4 player in the state of Georgia.
The Bulldogs were struggling when Faison arrived on campus, but everything came together for them in 2025-26. The young team compiled a 22-10 mark and reached the NCAA tournament for the first time in three seasons. Georgia earned a No. 7 seed and began its tournament run at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, but was upset by 10th-seeded Virginia, who in turn would upset Iowa just two days later.
Faison played in 25 games for the Bulldogs, recording just 1.3 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. Head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson and the school parted ways after the season ended, forcing Faison and the rest of the roster to seek new homes.
Carnegie, Georgia's leading scorer, quickly landed with Iowa days after entering the portal, but it took Faison awhile to find her next spot. 17 days after Carnegie joined the Black and Gold, Faison came to the same decision.
Analysis
There's not a lot of tape to go off of here, but the Hawkeyes are getting a very talented player with a lot of upside. The state of Georgia has plenty of high school talent on the hardwood, and Faison's previous status as a top-100 recruit confirms that.
She didn't have as many opportunities to shine in Athens as she hoped, but you can guarantee that Faison's talents will be fully utilized in Iowa City.
