Tight end Will Anciaux and receiver Jaron Tibbs are among those trying to regain healthy after getting injured in the loss to the Cincinnati Bearcats
The Kansas State Wildcats had two noticeable injuries in last week's 31-26 loss on the road to the Cincinnati Bearcats.
Tight end Will Anciaux and receiver Jaron Tibbs both went down with undisclosed injuries in the first half. On Monday, first-year coach Collin Klein provided the latest updates on both players.
It appears Tibbs is closer to a return than Anciaux.
"No final, final answer on Will," Klein said during his weekly press conference. "We should know, hopefully, by the end of [Monday]. I think it'll be a little bit of time for sure. Then depending on how things go, we'll know more by the end of today. Jaron will be fine."
Tibbs leads the team with 16 receptions for 168 yards and a touchdown. He was projected as the top receiver once Jayce Brown transferred to play for the LSU Tigers. Anciaux has six catches for 84 yards and a key member of a talented tight end room that also includes Garrett Oakley and sophomore Linkon Cure.
The positive for the Wildcats is they got production from others when both players were injured. In Tibbs' absence last week, Derrick Salley Jr., had a huge game in relief. He finished with a team-high seven catches for 140 yards and a touchdown. His only mistake was a momentum-changing fumble on the first play of the second half.
That was the start of 14 unanswered points by the Bearcats, helping them erase a seven-point deficit at halftime. At tight end, Oakley had his best performance of the season. He finished with seven catches for 80 yards.
The good news on the injury front is the Wildcats are in the middle of a bye week. After falling in their Big 12 conference opener, they return to action Oct. 10 against the Houston Cougars at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The Cougars are projected as one of the top teams in the conference, with their only loss coming to the defending champion Texas Tech Red Raiders.
