Kansas State five-star tight end Linkon Cure was one of the biggest headlines heading into 2025. The program's first five-star recruit was anticipated to hop into a Wildcats offense projected to take new leaps in the Big 12 and the nation.
Well, that didn't exactly happen. Cure didn't get a ton of shine in his freshman season. In fact, he had just nine appearances, recording six receptions for 37 yards. He was used more as a safety option than the actual top-tier weapon he was projected to be.
Kansas State coach Collin Klein hasn't forgotten about him, though, and has a game plan for the Wildcats tight end next season. Like his predecessor, Chris Klieman, Klein marveled at Cure's versatility at the position.
"He gives a ton of position versatility," Klein said in his Wednesday afternoon press conference. He’s a worker. He attacks everything he does, he’s attacked some of the nuances in different things that we’re doing. He’ll play the tight end position predominantly, more off the ball in nature collectively. But he gives you the flexibility to align him all over the field."
Cure will likely share the field with Garrett Oakley, who had a career season last year as the primary player at the position. Oakley's rise is likely part of the reason Cure wasn't utilized as much last year. The vision is for the two to split reps and production while sharing the field. Cure's progression is already showing in his nutrition.
"We’ll still use a lot of two-tight end sets, so whether it’s in 12 or 11 personnel, he gives you a lot of flexibility," Klein said. "I’m excited about how he’s worked in the program. He had the highest muscle mass gain and the most fat lost, which is really impressive. He’s already a very elite athlete, so credit to his work ethic."
