The NFL Draft is in less than a month, meaning the Draftees are getting more solidified by pick, team, and position.
ESPN is among the platforms making their mock Drafts, with its latest article outlining the top players at each position. Former Kansas State center Sam Hecht received a few lauds, placing in the top three of all four analysts' center rankings. Jake Slaughter (Florida), Connor Lew (Auburn), and Logan Jones (Iowa) were among those mentioned on the list with Hecht.
Matt Miller - 1st
Mel Kiper Jr. - 3rd
Jordan Reid - 3rd
Field Yates - 2nd
The Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens have been among the most prominent suitors for Hecht, as both playoff contenders lost their Pro Bowl centers over the past few weeks. Hecht would be a great lineman for either team, as both quarterbacks possess qualities similar to Wildcats senior Avery Johnson in their dual-threat play styles.
Hecht was a two-time First-Team All-Big 12 selection. He was a nominee for last season's Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year. Over his last two seasons, Hecht didn't allow a sack and gave up just one quarterback hit.
Here's the NFL's draft profile on Hecht:
"Hecht lacks ideal mass and length, but it will be hard to find a center in this year’s draft with better technique. He plays with well-placed inside hands that help maximize his leverage and core strength. All schemes are available to him, but his athleticism will shine when activated in space. He stays sticky to blocks once he connects, but his lack of length will put him on the wrong side of the battle from time to time in both the run and pass phases. Hecht needs to add more muscle mass to his frame, but he has the consistency and tape of a future starter."
He was mostly considered a Day 3 pick, but now could be selected as early as the second round. Hecht's Senior Day display shot him up the charts and drew attention from many outsiders who probably didn't have eyes on him at Kansas State. His agility and awareness make him an attractive prospect for many pro-level teams.
