Houston Cougars linebacker Jaden Yates, the team's leading tackler, will not play Saturday against the Kansas State Wildcats

The Houston Cougars will be without one of their top defenders for Saturday's game against the Kansas State Wildcats at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

Linebacker Jaden Yates is listed as out on the injury report for the second Big 12 game of the season for the Wildcats. He is dealing with a leg injury that occurred in the victory against the UCF Knights last week.

Yates, who transferred from the Ole Miss Rebels this season, leads the Cougars with 29 tackles in his senior season.

The Wildcats are also dealing with injuries. Tight end Will Anciaux is out for the season after sustaining a lower leg injury in the loss to the Cincinnati Bearcats in the Big 12 opener at Nippert Stadium. Backup quarterback Blake Barnett is also out while quarterback  Dillon Duff is listed as questionable. If Duff is unable to go, the Wildcats will only have starter Avery Johnson available at quarterback.

The good news is receiver Jaron Tibbs, who was injured in the Cincinnati game, was not on the injury report. Both teams enter the game with identical 3-1 records, with each losing a conference game. The Cougars' lone loss of the season came against the defending league champ Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Houston, which is No. 22 in the latest Associated Press poll, is one of two remaining ranked teams on the Wildcats schedule. The other is the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

`CATS GOING UP AGAINST K-STATE LEGEND THIS WEEK

Michael Bishop was one of the best quarterbacks in NCAA football history when he played for the Wildcats.

Now, Bishop is in a different position.

He gets to face his former team this Saturday when the Wildcats play against Houston. Bishop is now an offensive assistant with the Cougars.

He will go up against first-year Wildcats coach Collin Klein, who has gotten to know Bishop overs. Like Bishop, Klein was also a standout quarterback for the Wildcats.

"Over the years, I have definitely gotten to know him better," Klein said during his weekly press conference. "I respect him tremendously."

KLEIN EXTENDS OFFER TO SUPER YOUNG PROSPECT

Klein is once again getting an early start on a recruit.

He recently offered a scholarship to receiver Noah Gigger, who players for CarrollWood Day School in Tampa. He is a member of the 2030 recruiting class. He also has offers from Maryland, North Carolina and Syracuse.

The Wildcats are likely just getting in on the ground floor because Gigger is expected to develop into one of the nation's top prospects. He has played on the varsity team since he was 14.
