The Kansas State Wildcats are welcoming a new era with Collin Klein in his first year as coach

The Kansas State Wildcats football program is entering a new era under first-year coach Collin Klein.

The media picked the Wildcats to finish eighth in the Big 12 conference this season. Let's take a look at the schedule and see how K-State could finish. The Wildcats have quarterback Avery Johnson returning for his third season as the full-time starter and running back Joe Jackson in the backfield. There's also the hope tight end Linkon Cure lives up to his five-star recruit billing.

Sept. 5 vs. Nicholls

W -- The Wildcats should roll in this one. They're playing an inferior opponent. This should be an opportunity to get as many players on the field as possible.

Featured stories

Sept. 12 vs. Washington State

W -- Again, another victory for the Wildcats early in the season. It won't be easy but playing this game at home should help.

Sept. 19 vs. Tulane

W -- The Wildcats won't underestimate this game. Two years ago, the Green Wave gave them all they could handle. If Klein shows the players that game tape, the Wildcats will be more than prepared.

Sept. 26 at Cincinnati

W -- Moving to 4-0 should give the Wildcats plenty of momentum. By now, Johnson should have some impressive numbers and the team could potentially move into the Top 25.

Oct. 10 vs. Houston

W -- Normally, this would be a loss but the Wildcats have a bye week and are playing at home again. They will benefit from the favorable schedule.

Oct. 17 vs. Kansas

W -- The Jayhawks are still the little brother in this state. The Wildcats move 6-0 and gain lots of attention for undefeated start.

Oct 24 at Arizona State

L -- This is where the schedule starts to get a little difficult. The Big 12 is one of the toughest leagues in the country. This could be a stumble for the Wildcats.

Oct. 31 at Colorado

W -- The loss the previous week should keep the Wildcats motivated. Even on the road, they still show up against the Buffaloes and Deion Sanders and Coach Prime.

Nov. 7 vs. Oklahoma State

L -- This just seems like a trap game. The Wildcats could be still riding high on the fast start but this just looks like a let-down game.

Nov. 14 at TCU

L -- Chalk this up to the tough conference. Will be hard for the Wildcats to grab a victory here.

Nov. 21 vs. Arizona

W -- The home-field advantage should definitely help here, especially after two straight losses.

Nov. 28 at Iowa State

W -- This really is the make or break game for the Wildcats. Even on the road, they should come out on top for this one to end the season on a positive for Klein.

A nine-win season would be a great way to start the Klein era.
