Is The Linkon Cure Era Finally Here For Kansas State Wildcats?
Nov 2, 2026 12:00 AM

After two years of hype, Kansas State Wildcats tight end Linkon Cure scored his first touchdown in Saturday's loss to the Colorado Buffaloes

The Kansas State Wildcats suffered a disappointing defeat on the road against the Colorado Buffaloes last Saturday.

It marked their second straight loss and fourth in the last five games. At 1-4 in the Big 12, they are at the bottom of the conference with the Buffaloes and rival Kansas Jayhawks. The hopes of making the league title game or College Football Playoff are long gone.

But there are some positive things going on with the Wildcats. And one of them is the recent play of sophomore tight end Linkon Cure.

He scored the first touchdown of his career against the Buffaloes. He caught a 33-yard touchdown from backup quarterback Blake Barnett.

The hope is there are many more to come for Cure, who is the most hyped player in school history. He is the first five-star recruit to sign with the program. And Cure is finally starting to show signs of it. This season, he has 13 catches for 156 yards and that score. That is double his production from a year ago.

But the Wildcats are expecting far more from Cure. After an adjustment-filled first year, it seems like he is finally catching on. It hasn't been easy to crack the rotation because tight end is one of the deepest positions for the Wildcats. The unit also features NFL prospect Garrett Oakley, who was a top target last season.

As Cure progresses, he could become one of the targets in the Big 12. Although he plays tight end, he is more like a receiver. He has the combination of size, height and speed that would give the Wildcats another offensive threat.

Things should only improve once quarterback Avery Johnson returns to the lineup. Johnson has been out the past two games with an undisclosed injury. Cure's development could make things easier for Johnson and the rest of the skilled players on offense.

Cure, who is from Goodland, Kans., was one of the sought after recruits in 2025. He had offers from top programs such as the Oregon Ducks and Texas A & M Aggies.

K-STATE VS. OKLAHOMA STATE KICKOFF TIME SET

The Kansas State Wildcats will face the Oklahoma State Cowboys Saturday at noon at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

The game will be televised by TNT. This marks the third time the Wildcats will appear on the network. Last week's game against Colorado was also on TNT.

Kansas State has won the last two in the series, winning 14-6 last year in Stillwater.
