Amid quarterback Avery Johnson's final season at Kansas State, you'd have to imagine the program is looking to find his next replacement for the future.

Well, they just got another candidate to compete for the job. Page High School quarterback Cam Kruse committed to the Wildcats on Tuesday, adding his name to the position depth. Kruse is based out of Franklin, TN. He also received offers from Miami, West Virginia, and Iowa State, among others.

"Go Cats! Excited for the next chapter," Kruse tweeted.

Last season, Kruse threw for 2,264 yards, 35 touchdowns, and three interceptions, completing 73 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 376 yards and six scores on the ground.

The Wildcats currently have Jacob Knuth, Blake Barnett, and Dillon Duff at the position. Barnett got a few snaps last season, being utilized more as a Taysom Hill-esque weapon. He'd come in for short gains on quarterback draws, rushing 14 times for 40 yards. Kansas State will likely start integrating the backups more into the offensive game plan to see what it has at the position.

Here are the other recent 2027 class commits:

David Rushing, Wide Receiver

Rushing is a three-star prospect from Salpointe Catholic High School in Tucson, AZ. He received offers from Utah, Oklahoma State, and East Carolina, but ultimately picked Manhattan, KS, as his new home. He had 34 receptions for 589 yards and six touchdowns last season.

Ben Hynek, Tight End

The Wildcats may have struck gold with Hynek, a four-star product from Stanley High School in Stanley, ND. This is a huge addition for the team, acquiring not only their first offensive weapon but a highly ranked prospect. With veteran tight end Garrett Oakley having one year of eligibility, the Wildcats want to start providing some depth at the position.

Giacamo SanFilippo, Linebacker

SanFilippo, a three-star linebacker from Bishop Moore Catholic High School in Orlando, FL, officially committed to the Wildcats on Sunday. He also had offers from Louisville, Illinois, and Coastal Carolina. Last season, SanFilippo had 57 total tackles, eight of which were for losses, 3.5 sacks, and two pass deflections.
