FORMER KANSAS STATE COACH CHRIS KLIEMAN HAS NEW PROGRAM POSITION
Former Kansas State coach Chris Klieman announced his retirement four months ago but promised to stay with the team and continue to help in other ways.
He's officially back with the program, this time as a consultant. Kansas State athletic director Gene Taylor stated that Klieman will help advise Collin Klein in his new role as head coach.
Klieman exited Kansas State with a decorated resume and plenty of success: six winning seasons, six Bowl appearances, a 2022 Big 12 championship, and endless production within the program. The Wildcats had a rollercoaster 2025 season, finishing at 6-6 after being projected as a potential postseason sleeper. Still, Klieman's legacy speaks for itself.
"It just goes to show me that the good guys win," Klieman said in his retirement press conference. "Doing things the right way, with class and integrity, is the right way, and that’s the K-State way. It’s been an emotional day for me, but I'm at peace. I’ve had so many colleagues, former players, parents of current players, call to congratulate Rhonda and I. And that's why I’m in this business. To have that impact, not just on a kid that plays for you, but on a parent. On a support staff member and everybody that you touch. That’s leadership to me. Leadership is how many people can impact on a daily basis, making sure that’s a different person every day."
Klein acknowledged Klieman's impact on him during his time with Kansas State. The two spent five years on the sidelines together, winning a conference championship in 2022. Klein had nothing but high remarks for Klieman during his introductory head-coaching press conference.
"I’m not standing here today if not for coach Klieman," Klein said. "His leadership and growth that he gave to me, promoting me when the opportunity was right to serve as the offensive coordinator, and then as a mentor ever since.
