As transfer portal talks begin, Kansas State needs to revamp its roster and avoid being in a deficit.

On Friday afternoon, the program continued to add to its 2026 with three-star cornerback Josiah Vilmael. Vilmael is based out of Fort Bend Travis High in Richmond, TX. Kansas State beat out the likes of Texas, Arizona, and Baylor.

Vilmael also ran track and field in high school, logging 10.66 in the 100m and 21.57 in the 200m, respectively, during his junior season. Hopefully, he can bring speed to a backfield that must maintain its pace with the trailblazing receivers of the conference.

KANSAS STATE CORNERBACK PLANS TO ENTER TRANSFER PORTAL

As the winter transfer portal inches closer with the season over, college football teams will see an influx of changes within their rosters in January.

Kansas State is already seeing these shifts. In addition to safety Qua Moss and tight end Brayden Loftin, cornerback Amarion Fortenberry is departing the program as well. Fortenberry recorded 13 total tackles, one tackle for loss, and two pass deflections in 2025.

"Kansas State CB Amarion Fortenberry plans to enter the transfer portal, his agents told ESPN," Olson tweeted. "Fortenberry started in K-State's final 3 games this season and was a true freshman starter at South Alabama in 2024."

The three-star defensive back transferred to the Wildcats from South Alabama. He had limited playing time, mainly as depth behind cornerbacks Zashon Rich and Donovan McIntosh. Fortenberry's season highlights were against North Dakota and Oklahoma State.

NEW KANSAS STATE COACH COLLIN KLEIN SHARES FIRST WORDS UPON ARRIVAL

When Kansas State coach Chris Klieman retired on Wednesday afternoon, throwbacks to his initial coaching call poured in, reflecting the start of the seven-year veteran's career.

New K-State coach Collin Klein may have had his soundbite moment on Friday afternoon, sharing his first words after officially being named to the head position.

"It's very surreal, I still feel like I’m gonna wake up," Klein said to reporters after first landing in Manhattan, KS.

The Wildcats legend was met with applause upon his landing, illustrating the impact he's had on the program on the field and in the booth. Klein started his Kansas State tenure as the signal-caller, notching two All-Big 12 selections and a 2012 Heisman campaign. Klein exited Kansas State atop many of the school's all-time records, including first in rushing touchdowns, fourth in rushing attempts, ninth in rushing yards, and tenth in passing touchdowns.
