It's never too early to start building for the future.

Kansas State football has been busy establishing one of the top 2027 class units in the country, and the program is extending that effort to the 2028 class as well. The Wildcats extended an offer to four-star quarterback Oscar Sloan on Sunday. Sloan attends Center Grove High School in Greenwood, IN.

"After a great throwing session and conversation with Coach Ellsworth, I’m thankful to receive an offer to Kansas State University," Sloan tweeted.

Sloan has also received offers from Cincinnati, Iowa, and Illinois, among others. Last season, he threw for 1,689 yards, 13 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

The Wildcats have to start anticipating the future at the position with Avery Johnson on the way out. Klein says the quarterback battle hasn't really made any strides in spring ball thus far.

"There hasn’t been a guy that’s taken it yet," Klein said in his second spring ball presser. "If you made a decision on a different day, you've probably made three different decisions in the course of 10 days. That’s a credit to what good competition is. I think they’re all getting better and improving."

HERE'S CBS SPORTS' PATIENCE LEVEL IN COLLIN KLEIN'S FIRST COACHING SEASON

As Collin Klein steps back at Kansas State as the head coach, many project the program to bounce back after the 2025 rollercoaster. Others don't have huge expectations for the Wildcats, given that it's Klein's first season and the team lost most of its star players.

What should the program expect from Klein in his first year? CBS Sports created a patience scale for every coaching hire in the country, giving Klein a "3" on the 1-5 scale. This projects the Wildcats will be bowl-eligible after the roster overhaul, giving Klein a decent chance at success but not rushing any results.

"With returning starter Avery Johnson back under center, the Wildcats have a proven dual-threat catalyst who already understands the speed of Big 12 play and can stress defenses in multiple ways. His long-standing relationship with Klein doesn't hurt," the article wrote.

Klein is hailed as a program legend for his tenure with Kansas State as both a quarterback and coaching assistant. He finished his playing career with 4,724 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions, while rushing for 2,485 yards and 56 touchdowns. Klein then served in a plethora of roles on the sideline, including offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
