Kansas State's latest portal news is blowing up for some interesting reasons.
The program released redshirt freshman linebacker Maguire Richman despite him getting no playing time in his first year. He was a three-star recruit out of Overland Park, KS, recording 353 total tackles and 15 tackles for loss in his three seasons at Blue Valley High.
"Today I was informed by the KSU coaching staff that they are releasing me," Richman tweeted on Tuesday afternoon. "Therefore, I am immediately entering the portal with 4 years of eligibility remaining."
Some fans are scorching the university for getting rid of a player so early in his career and failing to develop him. This brings up the ongoing debate over the effects of NIL compensation in college football.
Some Kansas Jayhawks fans even lauded the idea of him staying in-state and committing to their school instead.
Most other users just trolled him for the photo he used in the post.
"Sorry to hear it, but if I might suggest...try a different pose next time," one fan tweeted. "Looks like you're about to drop a fat one on the Kansas State Field. Hell, I would too."
Richman joins a long list of Kansas State players who have departed via the transfer portal. He hasn't found a new team yet, but will be on the lookout over the next few weeks. Here are the other losses the Wildcats have suffered the past couple of days:

Kansas State has added some defensive pieces to make up for key losses, but coach Collin Klein and his staff will need to continue adding game-wreckers to revamp a defense that already needed improvements.
